Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB+
The Steelers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. The Steelers spent real capital to be 39 picks early on Hunter Nourzad, and the board is going to hold them to it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. It is not that Nourzad is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.
Rosengarten falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy is a better player than the 64th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the 84th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 95; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98
Rnd3
Cam Hart
They took Cam Hart at par in pick 98, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Nice patience on Jaden Hicks, who had no business lasting to pick No. 102. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A reasonable price with a little left over, Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick119
Rnd4
Hunter Nourzad
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Hunter Nourzad, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick156
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
They will replay Roger Rosengarten at the 156th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick159
Rnd5
Michael Pratt
Taking Michael Pratt in No. 159 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178
Rnd6
Layden Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Layden Robinson at slot 178, value and slot in agreement. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
By-the-book stuff, Ty'Ron Hopper at Round 6, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195
Rnd6
Erick All
They liked Erick All enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 195. It fills a real need, too.
Pick206
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
A quiet steal in pick No. 206: M.J. Devonshire for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
