Scott should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B-. The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Keionte Scott, the No. 67 name on the board, sitting there at Round 3, Pick 25 like a gift left on the doorstep.
It is not that Iheanachor is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target, and a steal at that.
Pick53
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Value with a capital V on Olaivavega Ioane in the 53rd overall pick, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick76
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
They barely believed it either: Deontae Lawson still on the board at pick No. 76. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott in the 89th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
They did well to land Daylen Everette in No. 99, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick121
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
A tidy little value on Trinidad Chambliss in Round 4, Pick 21, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick129
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They took DeMonte Capehart at par in slot 129, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick135
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
A curious use of pick 135. Running back needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Max Iheanachor did not.
Pick159
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
A quiet steal in the 159th overall pick: Chase Roberts for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick213
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at pick 213 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick214
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
A straight-up fair deal on Brett Norfleet at pick No. 214, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224
Rnd7
Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jaylon Braxton
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylon Braxton. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick241
Rnd7
Haynes King
No edge and no loss on Haynes King in No. 241; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
