Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Jay Toia at pick 242. The Steelers jumped the board by 75 and dared it to prove them wrong.

Getting Neal where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Jonah Savaiinaea
In No. 22 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kamari Ramsey
They read the board right and Kamari Ramsey was the payoff at the 53rd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84 Rnd3 Jermari Harris
Jermari Harris at slot 84 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120 Rnd4 Oronde Gadsden II
They went early on Oronde Gadsden II in pick 120, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick154 Rnd5 Devin Neal
Devin Neal in pick No. 154 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick223 Rnd7 Nick Nash
Nick Nash at the 223rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick229 Rnd7 J.C. Davis
They talked themselves into J.C. Davis at pick 229, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick242 Rnd7 Jay Toia
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jay Toia in Round 7, Pick 26, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
