The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: DJ James, the No. 53 name on the board, sitting there at No. 98 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B.

With quarterback, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Reaching for Powers-Johnson left real value on the table behind him.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
