A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

The Steelers spent real capital to be 86 picks early on Sam Hartman, and the board is going to hold them to it.

With safety, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Wilson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 19 is lovely value for the linebacker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick120 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
A curious use of pick No. 120. Safety, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Matt Goncalves did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Delmar Glaze
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Delmar Glaze adds an offensive lineman and leaves safety, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick197 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
They talked themselves into Sam Hartman at the 197th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238 Rnd7 Logan Lee
They paid sticker price for Logan Lee in the 238th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
