FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Steelers. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Steelers took Jordan Jefferson a full 28 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Frazier pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Fashanu.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 20th pick they get a building block for the line, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick54
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Zach Frazier at offensive lineman with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick84
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A conviction pick on Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick119
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones at Round 4, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in slot 120 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
They reached a country mile for Jordan Jefferson at pick 156, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195
Rnd6
Daijun Edwards
Daijun Edwards at slot 195 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick240
Rnd7
Dominique Hampton
Good price on Dominique Hampton in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
