The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Leonard: B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Riley Leonard, the No. 106 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 163rd overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The cost of the Williams reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Quentin Johnston deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
A straight-up fair deal on Emeka Egbuka at Round 1, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick52 Rnd2 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the 52nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick83 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in pick 83 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick163 Rnd5 Riley Leonard
They barely believed it either: Riley Leonard still on the board at slot 163. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick225 Rnd7 John Williams
They reached a country mile for John Williams at the 225th pick, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick231 Rnd7 Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at No. 231 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
They paid sticker price for Cody Lindenberg in pick No. 247, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
