Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

Of all the ways to open, the Steelers chose the head-scratcher, spending pick No. 51 on Zach Frazier with edge rusher, linebacker and other spots still wide open. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Simpson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In No. 22 they get protection for the quarterback. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Zach Frazier while clear needs at edge rusher, linebacker and other spots sat open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in the 120th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
By-the-book stuff, McKinnley Jackson at the 121st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Good price on Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 171, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in pick 197. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick238 Rnd7 Trey Knox
Fair-plus on Trey Knox, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
