FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Steelers took Edefuan Ulofoshio a full 41 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. A real need, handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
They went early on Kingsley Suamataia in the 51st overall pick, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in the 84th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Value with a capital V on Mike Sainristil in pick 87, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at Round 3, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick98
Rnd3
Cedric Gray
They liked Cedric Gray enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 98. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick119
Rnd4
Maason Smith
Maason Smith slipping to pick 119 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd6
Delmar Glaze
A reach for Delmar Glaze in Round 6, Pick 3; a little patience would have been rewarded. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick195
Rnd6
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A big swing on Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 195, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
