FutureB-
Nelson should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B. Somebody in pick 225 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Jack Nelson, the No. 130 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Lachey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 30 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick52
Rnd2
Benjamin Morrison
Nice patience on Benjamin Morrison, who had no business lasting to pick 52. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick56
Rnd2
Tre Harris
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 24, with Tre Harris worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick97
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Circle this one: Donovan Jackson at the 122nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick140
Rnd5
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 140th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick163
Rnd5
Tory Horton
Steal is underselling it; Tory Horton at No. 163 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jack Nelson
Somehow Jack Nelson was still sitting there in slot 225, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick231
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith at the 231st overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Craig Woodson
Craig Woodson in pick 247 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
