43 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
The jury is out on the Steelers. For now, C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Theo Wease Jr. in the 128th overall pick.
The Paul Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Hit on Grey Zabel and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
In slot 26 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. More want than need.
Pick59
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at Round 2, Pick 27 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90
Rnd3
Smael Mondon Jr.
A wild overpay on Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 90, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick128
Rnd4
Theo Wease Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Theo Wease Jr. this early at the 128th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick153
Rnd5
Chris Paul Jr.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at the 153rd overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick225
Rnd7
Tyreak Sapp
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyreak Sapp. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick238
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thor Griffith in pick No. 238, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
