Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B to prove it.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Steelers started one anyway for Taylen Green, 95 picks ahead of schedule. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

McAlister falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with edge rusher and cornerback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 21st overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84 Rnd3 Keylan Rutledge
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keylan Rutledge in Round 3, Pick 20. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
A want over a need in pick No. 85: Jake Slaughter adds an offensive lineman while edge rusher and cornerback keeps waiting.
Pick99 Rnd3 Taylen Green
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taylen Green this early at slot 99. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick120 Rnd4 Ted Hurst
They will replay Ted Hurst at No. 120 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121 Rnd4 Emmett Johnson
They read the board right and Emmett Johnson was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick135 Rnd4 Zxavian Harris
Zxavian Harris in slot 135 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jeff Caldwell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jeff Caldwell well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick216 Rnd6 Dae'Quan Wright
The board fumbled Dae'Quan Wright all the way to pick No. 216, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224 Rnd7 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe in No. 224 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick230 Rnd7 Miller Moss
Value said wait; Miller Moss in pick 230 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Eric McAlister
Steal is underselling it; Eric McAlister at the 237th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
