Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureC+
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers.

The needs board said one thing and the Steelers did another, using the Round 3 slot on Dominick Puni while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots waited.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Vaki falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick51 Rnd2 Ricky Pearsall
They took Ricky Pearsall at par in Round 2, Pick 19, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at pick No. 84 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
A want over a need in No. 87: Dominick Puni adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick120 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
No edge and no loss on Tyler Davis in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Sione Vaki
Value with a capital V on Sione Vaki in slot 171, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick172 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau at the 172nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in the 178th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick195 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
A quiet steal in pick 195: Cornelius Johnson for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
