Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. The needs board said one thing and the Steelers did another, using No. 94 on Dominick Puni while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots waited.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims in the 26th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick51
Rnd2
Jermaine Burton
By-the-book stuff, Jermaine Burton at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at No. 84, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 31 on Dominick Puni with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick118
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick119
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at pick No. 119 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 133rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at pick 195 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
