Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Hunter Nourzad, 32 picks early at the 127th overall pick.

The Steelers indulged a want in Nourzad while a need in quarterback, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Getting Melton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a long-term starter on the line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick52 Rnd2 Ricky Pearsall
By-the-book stuff, Ricky Pearsall at pick 52 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Max Melton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Melton in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at pick No. 99 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis at the 119th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127 Rnd4 Hunter Nourzad
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Hunter Nourzad adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick151 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Good price on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 151, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick161 Rnd5 AJ Barner
They went early on AJ Barner in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick195 Rnd6 Logan Lee
A premium they did not need to pay, Logan Lee a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
