The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bears took Braelon Allen at the 120th overall pick, roughly 35 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Zinter to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the 6th overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around. Need was not the driver here.
Pick20
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 20 they get a true top target, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value. More want than need.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in the 39th pick, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick47
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A wild overpay on Zach Frazier in slot 47, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick79
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 15. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick96
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Robinson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
They barely believed it either: Zak Zinter still on the board at slot 114. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick119
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at No. 119 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
