Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

The Texans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They will need Daniels to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

The Nwankpa steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Harold Perkins Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Harold Perkins Jr. at pick No. 31. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick41 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mykel Williams. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick56 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
A slide stopped in the 56th pick, with Isaiah Bond worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick60 Rnd2 Xavier Nwankpa
You do not let a safety like Xavier Nwankpa reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick63 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at No. 63 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick86 Rnd3 Devin Neal
They went early on Devin Neal in slot 86, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick88 Rnd3 Bear Alexander
A reach on Bear Alexander in pick 88; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick120 Rnd4 Tommi Hill
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tommi Hill well ahead of where he belonged. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Monheim at pick 155, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
A wild overpay on Jalon Daniels in the 216th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
