You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Slaughter had no business being available in the Round 3 slot, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

They will need Payne to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
