jj3325 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Larceny in the 217th overall pick lands the Packers a B-, Harrell and all. You could see the war room lean forward. Jaylen Harrell at the 217th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Hicks pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots.
The cost of the Wright reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kamren Kinchens
A conviction pick on Kamren Kinchens at pick 25 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They jumped the gun on Jackson Powers-Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 57, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick88
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson at the 88th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent slot 91 on Jaden Hicks, a safety they were not short of.
Pick125
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
They robbed the room for Khyree Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Wright in No. 135 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick203
Rnd6
Myles Jones
They took Myles Jones at par in the 203rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
Jaylen Harrell in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
They let Jase McClellan come to them and pounced at pick 219. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse in the 246th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
