Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
F

FutureF
The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a F. The Commanders torched the value chart for Khristian Boyd, taking him 39 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while cornerback and interior defensive lineman went begging.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. However the rest shakes out, Flournoy at that price is a win they earned.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In slot 5 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 4. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick40
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 40, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cade Stover
No edge and no loss on Cade Stover in the 67th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick78
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at No. 78 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick114
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
A want over a need in pick 114: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while cornerback and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Pick116
Rnd4
Christian Jones
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at Round 4, Pick 16 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khristian Boyd in No. 139, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick152
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
A tidy little value on Mason McCormick in slot 152, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick222
Rnd7
Ryan Flournoy
They robbed the room for Ryan Flournoy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
