Alexokf DRAFTING FOR THEBuccaneers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Buccaneers, and a B- to prove it. The Buccaneers clearly saw something nobody else did in Dont'e Thornton Jr., taking him 26 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Watts value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In No. 19 they get a potential shutdown corner. A real need, handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
They read the board right and Xavier Watts was the payoff at pick No. 53. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick84
Rnd3
David Walker
David Walker at the 84th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick 121 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick157
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 157th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
