Draft Grade — Packers

Grand theft in pick No. 217: the Packers steal Driskell and grade out a B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Ethan Driskell tumbling to the Packers in slot 217 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Wright reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at the Round 1 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41
Rnd2
Byron Murphy II
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in pick 41, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick57
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
The board had cheaper options than Javon Bullard at the 57th pick, and it noticed. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick88
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau at pick No. 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick91
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick125
Rnd4
Will Shipley
By-the-book stuff, Will Shipley at No. 125 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylen Wright well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick203
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights in slot 203 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick217
Rnd6
Ethan Driskell
The board fumbled Ethan Driskell all the way to Round 6, Pick 42, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick219
Rnd6
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in the 219th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick246
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
They took Dwight McGlothern at par in No. 246, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
