Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureD+
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B-. Some picks age like wine; Nathan Pickering at slot 257 will need to, sitting 112 spots clear of his grade. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Steelers indulged a want in Frazier while a need in edge rusher, running back and other spots stayed open.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at slot 27 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick35
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Fair-plus on Adonai Mitchell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Lassiter at the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick53
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A surprising call. With edge rusher, running back and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 53 on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick93
Rnd3
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at pick 93 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Davis. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Blake Fisher adds an offensive lineman and leaves edge rusher, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick135
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
A conviction pick on Luke McCaffrey at Round 4, Pick 35 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick154
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A straight-up fair deal on Kitan Oladapo at No. 154, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick178
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
The board had cheaper options than Tanor Bortolini at pick 178, and it noticed. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick185
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett in the 185th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick256
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taulia Tagovailoa. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick257
Rnd7
Nathan Pickering
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nathan Pickering this early at slot 257. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
