Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesD-
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Packers to a C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Patrick Payton in the 160th pick. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They banked enough surplus on Roush to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
So much rides on Anthony Hill Jr. that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in the 56th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick84
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
They read the board right and Elijah Sarratt was the payoff at the 84th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Domonique Orange graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick120
Rnd4
Sam Roush
Sam Roush at Round 4, Pick 20 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in No. 124 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in slot 160 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick201
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at the 201st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick203
Rnd6
Isaiah Jatta
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Jatta at slot 203, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell slipping to pick 236 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245
Rnd7
Charles Demmings
A quiet steal in pick No. 245: Charles Demmings for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick255
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Deven Eastern well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
