Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Etienne: B.

Somebody in the 205th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Trevor Etienne, the No. 142 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

If Travis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick41 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at Round 2, Pick 9 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick61 Rnd2 Trey Amos
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Amos in pick 61. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
A tidy little value on Quinshon Judkins in the 72nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick96 Rnd3 Jack Bech
Jack Bech in pick No. 96 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick128 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
They let Emery Jones Jr. come to them and pounced at the 128th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134 Rnd4 Billy Bowman Jr.
The board fumbled Billy Bowman Jr. all the way to No. 134, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick168 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A premium they did not need to pay, JJ Pegues a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick205 Rnd6 Trevor Etienne
A running back of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
A wild overpay on Jalen Travis in the 245th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
