Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Commanders kept it disciplined and banked a B.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Kain Medrano, 92 picks early at the 245th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Schwesinger pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick35 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 3: Malaki Starks for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick61 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at pick 61 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick101 Rnd3 Oluwafemi Oladejo
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Oluwafemi Oladejo. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger in pick No. 103 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick120 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in the 120th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick127 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaylin Lane
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Lane at pick No. 128. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick179 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 179 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick192 Rnd6 Carson Vinson
A big swing on Carson Vinson at the 192nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jalen Travis
They reached into another round for Jalen Travis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick245 Rnd7 Kain Medrano
Kain Medrano in No. 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
