The Saints finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

The Saints spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In No. 14 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Pick45 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keon Coleman at pick 45. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149 Rnd5 Christian Jones
Nice patience on Christian Jones, who had no business lasting to pick No. 149. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
They let Jordan Travis come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 31. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 169 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick174 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
A safety of that caliber at the 174th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
They paid a round early for Jared Wiley in the 189th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick198 Rnd6 Daijun Edwards
By-the-book stuff, Daijun Edwards at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jowon Briggs
Jowon Briggs in pick 239 is fair value, right on his grade. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
