Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The Sam Hartman selection is the head-turner. The Saints reached 53 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. No fireworks, but a solid B.

That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers is a better player than the 14th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Darius Robinson in the 45th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149 Rnd5 Sataoa Laumea
The board fumbled Sataoa Laumea all the way to Round 5, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167 Rnd5 Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse in slot 167 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
They paid up for Jordan Jefferson at No. 169 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylan Ford. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick192 Rnd6 Daequan Hardy
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Daequan Hardy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick201 Rnd6 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 201st pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick230 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Value said wait; Sam Hartman in Round 7, Pick 10 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
