The Jaguars let Hampton fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The board owed the Jaguars one, and it paid up: Omarion Hampton, the No. 15 name on the board, sitting there at slot 69 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Lampkin has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In slot 4 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick35
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Sanders at the 35th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at pick 65 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 69 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jay Higgins
The board fumbled Jay Higgins all the way to the 92nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jabbar Muhammad
A reach for Jabbar Muhammad in No. 103; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick128
Rnd4
Willie Lampkin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Willie Lampkin in Round 4, Pick 27, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
