Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The phones sank the Vikings this weekend: D+.

The Vikings lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while tight end went begging. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Chambers pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick35 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 3, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in the 40th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick42 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamren Kinchens at No. 42 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
A straight-up fair deal on Brandon Dorlus at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent slot 109 on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick130 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sataoa Laumea in the 130th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick145 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
By-the-book stuff, Javion Cohen at pick No. 145 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick157 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the 157th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166 Rnd5 Sincere Haynesworth
Nothing to complain about; Sincere Haynesworth went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick179 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in Round 6, Pick 4 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick188 Rnd6 Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 188 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick227 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
A big swing on Steele Chambers at No. 227, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
