FutureB-
The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
The cost of the Vidal reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Bell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 4th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
A tidy bit of business in the 35th pick, where Amarius Mims graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at pick 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 40; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at No. 67 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick103
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
They did well to land Brenden Rice in slot 103, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick137
Rnd5
James Williams
Nice patience on James Williams, who had no business lasting to pick No. 137. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138
Rnd5
Josh Newton
A quiet steal in No. 138: Josh Newton for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jaheim Bell
A tight end of that caliber at slot 181 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at the 220th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
