Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA FutureA
The Commanders let Hill Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Anthony Hill Jr. slide 22 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. It is not that Hill Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. The Azeez Al-Shaair deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 22 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Anthony Hill Jr. while clear needs at wide receiver, cornerback and other spots sat open.
Pick71 Rnd3 Akheem Mesidor
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Akheem Mesidor at Round 3, Pick 7 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman at pick No. 145 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jalon Daniels
No drama and no debate, Jalon Daniels went about where he belonged in pick 185. It fills a real need, too.
Pick196 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
By-the-book stuff, Trey Zuhn III at the 196th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at the 223rd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
