Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Commanders. The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Dominic Zvada went at pick No. 223, a good 48 picks before the board was ready. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Bernard at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In No. 11 they get an enforcer at safety at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick45
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They read the board right and Anthony Hill Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 45. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick71
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
Value with a capital V on Germie Bernard in the 71st pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A wild overpay on Jermaine Mathews Jr. in Round 5, Pick 7, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick187
Rnd6
Trinidad Chambliss
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Trinidad Chambliss graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
A big swing on Patrick Payton at pick 197, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dominic Zvada. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
