Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Trey Moore in the 190th pick. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

That Taaffe pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
Spencer Fano at the 12th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44 Rnd2 Cayden Green
By-the-book stuff, Cayden Green at Round 2, Pick 12 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Michael Taaffe in the 76th pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. slid further than he should have, and slot 112 is lovely value for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick129 Rnd4 Terrance Carter
No drama and no debate, Terrance Carter went about where he belonged in No. 129. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
They did well to land Davison Igbinosun in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick190 Rnd6 Trey Moore
Trey Moore at No. 190 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick218 Rnd7 Marquis Johnson
They took Marquis Johnson at par in the 218th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jalen Hale
They paid sticker price for Jalen Hale in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
