FutureB-
The Eagles did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Trey Knox in the Round 5 slot.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Trotter Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver and quarterback still on the board. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Graham Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at slot 27, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick50
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in No. 50. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kris Abrams-Draine
They talked themselves into Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71
Rnd3
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
A premium they did not need to pay, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A want over a need in the 86th pick: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds a linebacker while wide receiver and quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick87
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
They read the board right and Brandon Dorlus was the payoff at the 87th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88
Rnd3
Trey Benson
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick93
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the 93rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120
Rnd4
Javon Foster
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at No. 120 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171
Rnd5
Trey Knox
Trey Knox in the 171st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick172
Rnd5
Myles Cole
A wild overpay on Myles Cole in pick 172, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick210
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at slot 210 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
