Chuk DRAFTING FOR THEVikings
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Vikings: B-. The Vikings spent real capital to be 48 picks early on Kaytron Allen, and the board is going to hold them to it.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the 18th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick50
Rnd2
Kaytron Allen
Value said wait; Kaytron Allen in pick No. 50 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick82
Rnd3
Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at Round 3, Pick 18 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick97
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
They read the board right and Keon Sabb was the payoff at pick 97. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Terrance Carter
They liked Terrance Carter enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 118. It fills a real need, too.
Pick157
Rnd5
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at No. 157 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick173
Rnd5
Desmond Reid
They barely believed it either: Desmond Reid still on the board at the 173rd overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham at No. 196 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick208
Rnd6
Kelby Collins
They took Kelby Collins at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231
Rnd7
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at slot 231 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
