Chuk DRAFTING FOR THELions

Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Lions: B. Somebody in No. 240 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Lions sat still while Avery Johnson, the No. 214 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had White lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
A clean, defensible pick in the 27th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jake Slaughter. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kevin Concepcion
Value with a capital V on Kevin Concepcion in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick127
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They reached into another round for Davison Igbinosun, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick166
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
A conviction pick on Xavier Nwankpa at pick No. 166 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jordan White
They reached a country mile for Jordan White at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Bear Alexander
They liked Bear Alexander enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 205. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick240
Rnd7
Avery Johnson
They barely believed it either: Avery Johnson still on the board at the 240th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick255
Rnd7
Johntay Cook II
Johntay Cook II slid further than he should have, and pick 255 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
