Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB
The Texans let Egbuka fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

When a board-topper like Emeka Egbuka slides to the 53rd pick, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

The Moro Ojomo deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Kamren Kinchens
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a rangy last line of defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
They robbed the room for Emeka Egbuka here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Circle this one: Matt Goncalves at the 121st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick137 Rnd5 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at No. 137 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick155 Rnd5 Moose Muhammad III
No edge and no loss on Moose Muhammad III in the 155th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick175 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 175 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
