Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B+
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Patriots let Beebe fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Beebe at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Wright reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at pick 34 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick48
Rnd2
Graham Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the 48th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62
Rnd2
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in No. 62 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
A wild overpay on Bucky Irving in slot 68, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick93
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
They read the board right and Roman Wilson was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 30. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in No. 104 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A reach on Ben Sinnott in pick 131; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at Round 4, Pick 36 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick182
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
A slide stopped in pick No. 182, with Joe Milton III worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They took Jared Wiley at par in slot 211, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick229
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
Circle this one: JD Bertrand at the 229th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
