The Bears found their guy under center in Maye: B. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They are betting Eboigbe proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Drake Maye
By-the-book stuff, Drake Maye at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick18
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a go-to option on the outside, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the 38th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brenden Rice. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick122
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 122 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
