The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. The rest of the league had time to spare on Tanor Bortolini; the Bears did not wait, grabbing him 65 spots ahead at the 122nd pick.
So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Rosemy-Jacksaint.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick No. 16 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at slot 122 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235
Rnd7
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Steal is underselling it; Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 235th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
