The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Lew: B-.

The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Connor Lew, the No. 64 name on the board, sitting there at pick 95 like a gift left on the doorstep.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Hurst lower, and that gap is the story. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In slot 27 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value.
Pick58 Rnd2 Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick95 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in the 95th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick127 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keylan Rutledge in No. 127. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
No drama and no debate, Mike Washington Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 133. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst at Round 4, Pick 38 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick169 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor in the 169th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171 Rnd5 Marlin Klein
Marlin Klein at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick207 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
They let Eric McAlister come to them and pounced at pick 207. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
