Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Taaffe: B-.

Call it larceny. Michael Taaffe sat on the board until pick No. 92, and the 49ers did not need to be asked twice. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In pick 27 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. A real need, handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Connor Lew
Connor Lew in pick No. 58 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in slot 92 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick133 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Mike Washington Jr. at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
No drama and no debate, Beau Stephens went about where he belonged in No. 138. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick160 Rnd5 Ted Hurst
By-the-book stuff, Ted Hurst at the 160th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Zane Durant
Zane Durant at Round 5, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick172 Rnd5 Marlin Klein
They paid sticker price for Marlin Klein in the 172nd overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
