FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Kaleb Proctor at pick 138 is 33 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Slaughter at that price is a win they earned.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen slid further than he should have, and slot 40 is lovely value for the linebacker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jake Slaughter at the 58th pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick74
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter slipping to No. 74 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick92
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
A quiet steal in the 92nd overall pick: Zakee Wheatley for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick109
Rnd4
Mikail Kamara
Mikail Kamara at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick127
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Good price on Keylan Rutledge in pick No. 127, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ted Hurst well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138
Rnd4
Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor in Round 4, Pick 38 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Marlin Klein
A straight-up fair deal on Marlin Klein at No. 171, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
