A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The 49ers get a C+. Nobody had Nadame Tucker this high, and it is not close. The 49ers reached 84 spots to get him at the 84th overall pick.
However the rest shakes out, Lew at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Akheem Mesidor
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Nadame Tucker
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nadame Tucker well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick92
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at pick 92. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jack Endries
The board had Jack Endries higher than No. 116, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
They paid sticker price for Keylan Rutledge in Round 4, Pick 20, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Zane Durant
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zane Durant this early at the 127th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
They talked themselves into Ted Hurst at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd4
Reggie Virgil
Reggie Virgil at the 138th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
A reach on Xavier Nwankpa in No. 171; the board had better options right there. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
