FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B. The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Kamran James at the 251st pick regardless, 54 picks early. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Lew falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Chris Brazzell II
In No. 30 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
You do not let a safety like Emmanuel McNeil-Warren reach slot 58 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick92
Rnd3
Connor Lew
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nicholas Singleton. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
Zane Durant
Zane Durant in pick No. 127 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge slid further than he should have, and pick 133 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138
Rnd4
Nadame Tucker
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nadame Tucker in the 138th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171
Rnd5
Reggie Virgil
Value with a capital V on Reggie Virgil in slot 171, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd5
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at pick 177 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215
Rnd6
Josh Cuevas
Josh Cuevas in No. 215 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251
Rnd7
Kamran James
A wild overpay on Kamran James in the 251st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
