Sharo DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-. The tape said wait; the 49ers did not. Eric O'Neill went at the 138th overall pick, a good 81 picks before the board was ready. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Lew pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 58th overall pick, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick92
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Taking Connor Lew in slot 92 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick127
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at No. 127 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick133
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Davison Igbinosun. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick138
Rnd4
Eric O'Neill
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric O'Neill well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
A conviction pick on Eric McAlister at pick No. 171 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
