Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The 49ers never addressed running back, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The Taaffe value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cost of the Hill Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
