Overall B-

Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-.

Nobody else had Zion Young anywhere near Round 1, Pick 27. The 49ers did, by 21 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Cooper Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Zion Young
In slot 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick60 Rnd2 Michael Taaffe
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Michael Taaffe at No. 60. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick92 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. slipping to the 92nd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chase Bisontis at pick 126 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Logan Jones. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
A straight-up fair deal on DeMonte Capehart at the 133rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in the 138th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171 Rnd5 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick228 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
They paid sticker price for Tony Grimes in pick No. 228, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
