The Lions did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Lions reached some 44 spots for Cedric Gray, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Verse steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick No. 29 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick61
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 61 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick73
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at slot 73 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 3, Pick 29 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick163
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
The board had cheaper options than Roger Rosengarten at the 163rd overall pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick207
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark in pick 207 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick247
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
They talked themselves into Trey Taylor at the 247th pick, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
